# Garmin vs smart ring: a sports watch or Sisly for everyday wear in the UAE

Garmin vs smart ring depends on what you do. A Garmin watch has a screen, built-in GPS and training tools for runners, cyclists and swimmers, and its app is free with an optional paid tier. Sisly is a titanium ring or band at AED 999, paid once, that reads sleep, energy and stress against your own normal.

- Garmin makes GPS sports watches with screens, training plans and long battery life; Sisly is a screenless titanium ring or band for sleep, energy and stress.
- Garmin Connect is free; Garmin Connect+ is an optional paid tier, and Garmin says every existing Connect feature stays free.
- Sisly is AED 999, paid once, with no subscription and readings hosted in the UAE.
- Some people wear both: a watch for training, a ring for the hours when a watch is in the way.
- Choose Garmin for racing, routes and training plans; choose Sisly for a quiet everyday reading of how you slept and how you are carrying the day.
## Garmin vs smart ring: what is the real difference?

A Garmin is a sports watch. It has a screen, built-in GPS and training tools, and it is made for people who run, ride, swim or hike and want to see their numbers while they move. Sisly is a smart ring or band with no screen. It is made to be worn all day and night and to tell you how you slept and how you are carrying the day.

They overlap on sleep, heart rate variability and stress. They differ on almost everything else: form, price model, and what each is built to do.

The table carries the UAE prices we checked, what you pay after you buy, battery, where readings are kept and app languages. Every figure lives in one data file with the date it was checked.

Some differences sit outside the table:

| | Garmin (Forerunner 570 as an example) | Sisly |
|---|---|---|
| What you wear | Watch with an AMOLED touchscreen | Titanium ring or band, no screen |
| GPS | Built in, multi-band | Not listed |
| Charge (maker's figure) | Up to 11 days in smartwatch mode; less with GPS | About 7 days |
| App | Garmin Connect, free; Connect+ optional and paid | Sisly app, everything included |
| Training tools | Training plans, running metrics, suggested workouts | None; reads sleep, energy, stress and activity |
| Where readings are kept | See the provider's privacy policy | Hosted in the UAE |

## What does Garmin do best?

Garmin is the specialist for training. Its Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970, released in May 2025, carry multi-band GPS, Garmin's brightest AMOLED touchscreen to date, training readiness, daily suggested workouts, running power and VO2 max, according to Garmin. The Forerunner 970 adds full-colour maps, a torch, a titanium bezel and an ECG app.

Battery is a Garmin strength. Garmin lists up to 11 days in smartwatch mode for the Forerunner 570 and up to 15 days for the Forerunner 970. GPS use shortens that, as it does on any watch.

Garmin also makes a device for people who do not want a watch in bed. The Index Sleep Monitor, announced in June 2025, is a screenless band worn on the upper arm. Garmin says it tracks sleep stages, HRV status, blood oxygen, breathing variations, skin temperature, stress and Body Battery, with up to 7 nights per charge.

In the UAE, Garmin runs an official online store through its authorised distributor, and major retailers such as Sharaf DG sell its watches.

## What does Sisly do best?

Sisly is built for the hours when a sports watch is in the way: sleep, a long day at work, dinner, prayer. It is a titanium ring or band with no screen, so there is nothing to light up.

Sisly reads sleep, energy, stress, heart rate variability, activity and skin temperature, and reads each against your own normal. Heart rate variability, or HRV, is "the fluctuation in the time intervals between adjacent heartbeats", as a 2017 review in Frontiers in Public Health puts it. Sisly shows whether yours is where it usually sits for you, not for an average of strangers.

The price is AED 999, paid once, with no subscription. Your readings are hosted in the UAE, and the app is in Arabic and English. Sisly is available to pre-book in three finishes named after oases: Ain in silver, Hasa in black and Liwa in gold. Sisly is not a medical device.

## What does Garmin Connect+ cost, and do you need it?

Garmin Connect, the app every Garmin pairs with, is free. In March 2025 Garmin added Garmin Connect+, a paid tier sold monthly or yearly after a 30-day free trial. Garmin's announcement says: "All existing features and data in Garmin Connect will remain free."

Connect+ adds:

- Active Intelligence, AI-based insights from your health and activity data;
- a performance dashboard with charts you can set up yourself;
- expanded LiveTrack, so friends and family can follow a session;
- training guidance from Garmin coaches.

For most people, the free app covers what they bought the watch for. Connect+ suits people who want deeper analysis and coaching. The table above shows the Connect+ price we checked. We could not find a dirham price on Garmin's own pages, so check the Garmin Connect app for the price in your region.

## How much does each cost over three years?

A Garmin's price depends on the model, from entry watches to titanium flagships, so the fairest sum is a pattern rather than one number. The table shows the figures we checked.

**Garmin:**

1. The watch or band, at the UAE price for the model you choose.
2. Garmin Connect, free, for as long as you use it.
3. Optionally, Connect+ at the monthly or yearly rate, for the months you want it.

**Sisly:**

1. The ring or band, AED 999.
2. Nothing else. The three-year cost is AED 999.

If you skip Connect+, a Garmin also costs its purchase price and nothing more. The difference is then the price of the device and what it does. The [smart ring prices in the UAE](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/smart-ring-prices-uae/) page keeps these numbers current, and [smart rings without a subscription](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/smart-ring-without-subscription/) lists every ring with nothing to renew.

## Should you wear a watch, a ring, or both?

This comes down to your week.

1. **You train for races, or you want routes and pace on your wrist.** A Garmin does what a ring cannot: GPS, a screen, workouts in real time.
2. **You want to know how you slept and how stress is building, without a screen.** A ring is lighter to live with, day and night.
3. **You do both.** Some people wear a watch for sessions and a ring for everything else. The two do not get in each other's way.

Heat changes training here. Our guides to [running routes in Dubai](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/best-running-routes-dubai/) and [walking tracks in Riyadh](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/walking-tracks-riyadh/) cover when to go out in the hot months, and a GPS watch pairs well with both.

## Where is your data kept?

For Garmin, see the provider's privacy policy; the company sets out there how and where it handles your data.

Sisly readings are hosted in the UAE. The UAE's personal data law, Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, is described on the UAE Government portal as a framework to protect the confidentiality of information and the privacy of individuals.

## Garmin or Sisly: which one suits you?

**Choose Garmin if:**

- you train for races or spend long days outdoors and want built-in GPS;
- you want a screen, training plans and real-time workout data;
- you like the idea of a long battery, and an optional paid tier for deeper analysis.

**Choose Sisly if:**

- you want something you pay for once, AED 999, with nothing to renew;
- you want to wear it day and night, including to bed, with no screen;
- you want your readings hosted in the UAE and an app in Arabic and English;
- you already have a sports watch and want a quieter reading of the rest of your day.

## FAQ

**Is a Garmin watch or a smart ring better for sleep tracking?**

Both track sleep, and neither is a medical sleep test. A ring sits on your finger and has no screen to light up at night, which some people prefer. Garmin also sells the Index Sleep Monitor, a screenless band worn on the upper arm for sleep. The better fit is the one you will actually keep on every night.

**Do I need Garmin Connect+ to use a Garmin watch?**

No. Garmin Connect, the free app, keeps every feature and all the data it had before Connect+ launched in March 2025, according to Garmin. Connect+ is an optional paid tier, sold monthly or yearly after a 30-day free trial. It adds AI-based insights, a performance dashboard, expanded LiveTrack and guidance from Garmin coaches.

**How much does Garmin Connect+ cost in the UAE?**

Garmin announced Connect+ with monthly and yearly prices in US dollars, and the table in this article shows the figure we checked. We could not find a separate UAE dirham price on Garmin's own pages, so check the Garmin Connect app on your phone for the price shown in your region before you subscribe.

**Does Sisly have GPS?**

Sisly does not list GPS. It is a titanium ring or band with no screen that reads sleep, energy, stress, heart rate variability, activity and skin temperature against your own normal. If you want to map a run or follow a route, a GPS watch such as a Garmin Forerunner does that job, and you can wear Sisly alongside it.

**How long does the battery last on a Garmin watch compared with Sisly?**

It depends on the Garmin model. Garmin lists up to 11 days in smartwatch mode for the Forerunner 570 and up to 15 days for the Forerunner 970. The Index Sleep Monitor lists up to 7 nights. Sisly lists about 7 days between charges. Using GPS shortens any watch's battery.

**Can I wear a Garmin and Sisly together?**

Yes. A watch on the wrist and a ring on the finger do not get in each other's way, and some people who train keep a watch for sessions and a ring for the rest of the day and night. You would see two apps, one for training and one for how your body is carrying the week against your own normal.

**Where can I buy Garmin in the UAE?**

Garmin UAE runs an official online store through its authorised distributor, and Garmin watches are also sold by major UAE retailers such as Sharaf DG and noon. Prices vary by model and offer, so compare a few before you buy. Sisly is available to pre-book on this site, at AED 999 with nothing to pay after.
