# Smart ring without a subscription: what to know before you buy

A smart ring without subscription fees is one you pay for once, with no membership needed to see your readings. Samsung's Galaxy Ring, Ultrahuman's Ring AIR, RingConn and Sisly work this way. Oura and Whoop charge a membership for full use. Before you buy, check what is included, optional add-ons, battery and where your data is kept.

- A paid-once ring shows your readings without a membership; a membership ring keeps charging while you use it.
- Oura shows three daily scores without a membership; Whoop stops collecting new data when a membership ends.
- Some no-subscription rings still sell optional paid add-ons, so read what is included.
- Compare the cost over three years, not the price on the box.
- Sisly is AED 999, paid once, with readings hosted in the UAE and an app in Arabic and English.
## What does a smart ring without subscription actually mean?

A smart ring without subscription fees is one where the price you pay on the day covers the readings you see in the app. There is no monthly or yearly membership to keep them coming.

That sounds simple, but the words are used loosely. Three different models sit under the same label:

- **Paid once, everything included.** You buy the ring and the app shows everything it reads. Nothing is sold separately.
- **Paid once, with optional extras.** The core readings are included, but the maker sells extra features on their own terms.
- **Membership.** The ring works, but most of the insights, or all new readings, need a paid plan.

Knowing which model you are buying matters more than the headline price.

## Which smart rings charge a membership?

Two well-known names use a membership.

**Oura.** Oura sells a membership for its full insights. Oura's support pages say that without an active membership you see your three daily scores, readiness, activity and sleep, plus ring battery, profile and settings. Everything else needs the membership. A new ring includes one month. Membership prices vary by country.

**Whoop.** Whoop is sold only as a membership, in three tiers named One, Peak and Life. The band is included while you pay. Whoop's support pages say that once a membership ends, data is no longer collected, uploaded or analysed.

Watches and bands follow similar patterns. Garmin keeps all existing features of its Garmin Connect app free and sells an optional plan called Garmin Connect+, launched in March 2025. Fitbit keeps base features free and sells an optional premium plan.

A membership is not a bad deal in itself. It pays for ongoing features and coaching. It simply means the cost continues for as long as you use the device.

## Which smart rings work without a subscription?

Several rings on sale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia need no membership, according to their makers:

- **Samsung Galaxy Ring.** Samsung lists no subscription. It works with Android phones and syncs to Samsung Health.
- **Ultrahuman Ring AIR.** Ultrahuman's UAE store states there are no recurring subscription fees. It sells optional paid features called PowerPlugs, such as AFib detection and Cycle and Ovulation Plus.
- **RingConn Gen 2.** RingConn says there are no subscriptions and that its health monitoring is included.
- **Amazfit Helio Ring.** Amazfit says the Helio Ring does not need a subscription for its core features.
- **Sisly.** A titanium ring or band at AED 999, paid once. Everything it reads is included, with no add-on store.

Prices for most of these are on our [smart ring prices in the UAE](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/smart-ring-prices-uae/) page, checked monthly. For a fuller guide to each ring, see [the best smart rings in the UAE](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/best-smart-rings-uae/).

## What happens when a membership lapses?

This is the part people tend to find out later. With a membership ring or band, what you keep after you stop paying depends on the maker.

- With **Oura**, you keep the three daily scores and can download your data. The detailed insights stop.
- With **Whoop**, new data stops being collected. You can still see your history. If you come back after 90 days, Whoop resets your baseline and needs time to learn your normal again.

A baseline is your personal normal: the range your own readings usually sit in. Rings compare today with that baseline, which is why a reset means a period of less useful readings.

With a paid-once ring, there is nothing to lapse. The readings keep coming for as long as the ring is charged and on your finger.

## How do you compare the real cost?

The fair way to compare is to add up every payment over the time you expect to wear the ring. Three years is a sensible length.

1. Write down the price of each ring in AED on the day you buy.
2. For a membership, add the yearly price three times, or the monthly price 36 times.
3. For optional extras, add each one you know you will buy, for each year you will keep it.
4. Compare the three-year totals side by side.

With Sisly, step 2 and step 3 add nothing. The three-year cost is AED 999.

## Four questions to ask before you buy

Whatever ring you are looking at, ask these four questions. A clear answer to each one tells you most of what you need.

1. **What is included without a membership?** List the readings and features you actually want, and check each one.
2. **Where is my data kept?** Read the provider's privacy policy. It should say where your readings are stored and how they are used.
3. **What happens if I stop paying?** For a membership product, find the maker's own answer on its support pages.
4. **How long does the battery last?** Take the maker's figure as a guide. Every charge is a gap in your readings.

Sisly answers all four in a line each. Everything is included. Your readings are hosted in the UAE. There is nothing to stop paying. A charge lasts about 7 days.

## What are the common mistakes?

A few things catch people out when they buy a ring:

- **Comparing box prices only.** A membership ring can cost more over three years than a ring with a higher price on the box.
- **Missing the add-ons.** "No subscription" does not always mean nothing is sold separately.
- **Ignoring the phone.** Some rings work with Android only. Check the maker's compatibility list against your phone.
- **Skipping the size.** Many makers offer a sizing kit. Use it before you order, and wear the sample through a night as well as a day.
- **Not reading the privacy policy.** Health readings are personal. Know where they go. Our piece on [why nobody should see your team's health data](https://www.sisly.ai/en/blog/why-nobody-should-see-your-teams-health-data/) explains why this matters at work.

## Where does Sisly fit?

Sisly is built on the paid-once model. It is a titanium ring or band at AED 999, paid once, with no subscription. It reads sleep, energy, stress, heart rate variability, activity and skin temperature against your own normal, and tells you in plain words what it noticed. Your readings are hosted in the UAE. The app is in Arabic and English. Sisly is available to pre-book.

## FAQ

**Is there a smart ring with no subscription?**

Yes. Samsung's Galaxy Ring, Ultrahuman's Ring AIR, RingConn Gen 2, Amazfit's Helio Ring and Sisly all work without a membership, according to each maker. Some of them sell optional extras, such as Ultrahuman's paid PowerPlugs, so read what is included before you buy. Sisly is AED 999, paid once, with everything it reads included in that price.

**Does the Oura Ring work without a membership?**

Partly. Oura's support pages say that without an active membership you see your three daily scores, readiness, activity and sleep, along with ring battery, profile and settings. The detailed insights need the membership. New rings come with one month included. You can still download your own data without a membership through Oura's membership hub.

**What happens to Whoop if I stop paying?**

Whoop is sold only as a membership, with the band included. Whoop's support pages say that once your membership has ended, data is no longer collected, uploaded or analysed. You can still view the history you already have. If you return within 90 days Whoop keeps your baseline; after that it needs time to learn your normal again.

**Are no-subscription rings less capable?**

Not by definition. A paid-once ring can read sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability, activity and temperature just as a membership ring does. The difference is in what the maker includes in the price and what it sells separately. Compare the list of readings and features, not the payment model alone, and check whether any feature you care about is an add-on.

**Does Sisly have any hidden costs?**

No. Sisly is AED 999, paid once. There is no membership, no premium tier and no add-on store. Sleep, energy, stress, heart rate variability, activity and skin temperature are all part of that one price, and the app, in Arabic and English, comes with it. Your readings are hosted in the UAE.

**How do I compare a membership ring with a paid-once ring?**

Add up three years. For the membership ring, take the ring's price and add the yearly membership three times, or the monthly fee 36 times. For the paid-once ring, take the price and add any optional extras you would buy. Put the two totals side by side. Our monthly price page lists what each ring costs after you buy.
