Which running routes in Dubai are worth knowing?
Dubai has more places to run and walk than most residents use. There are beach tracks, a canal promenade, park loops, a hiking trail inside the city and one of the longest cycle tracks in the world out in the desert.
What makes them work is timing. The same route that is easy at 6 am in February can be dangerous at noon in August. So this guide gives each place with the season and the time of day that suit it.
Distances and facilities below come from Dubai Municipality, the Dubai Media Office and news reports, with the source listed at the end. Parks set their own hours and some charge entry, and both change, so check opening times before you go.

From November to March, most of the day works for a run or a long walk. April and October are for mornings and evenings. From May to September, outdoor running belongs to the first hour after dawn or the late evening, and many people move indoors.
Humidity matters as much as heat on the coast. A 2023 review in Environmental Health Perspectives explains that as humidity rises, less sweat evaporates, so the body cools less well. That is why a humid evening by the sea can feel harder than a hotter, drier morning inland.
Where can you run along Jumeirah Beach and Kite Beach?
What it is. A continuous jogging and walking track runs along Jumeirah Beach from the Dubai Water Canal to Umm Suqeim Park, according to the Dubai Media Office. Kite Beach sits on this stretch, along with Sunset Mall, the Dubai Sailing Club and the view towards Burj Al Arab.
Distance. The walking and jogging track runs the length of this coast. In 2022, the Roads and Transport Authority opened a separate 16 km cycling track alongside it, 4 metres wide, so runners and cyclists do not share a lane.
Facilities. Kite Beach is known for its food trucks, according to the Dubai Media Office. The RTA lists bike service points at Sunset Mall, Al Manara Mosque and Umm Suqeim Park.
Best time. Sunrise in any month. From November to March, late afternoon too. In summer the coast is humid as well as hot, so the earlier the better.
Why people like it. It is flat and continuous, with the sea on one side the whole way.
Where can you walk along the canal?
What it is. The Dubai Water Canal carries water from Business Bay out to the sea, with a promenade along its banks. The Brand Dubai sports guide lists the Dubai Water Canal Walk among the city’s outdoor sports destinations.
Distance. Gulf News puts the promenade at about 6.5 km. The canal walk joins the Jumeirah beach track at the coast, so a long run can take in both.
Best time. Evenings from October to April. Early mornings in summer.
Why people like it. It is paved and flat, and it links straight into the beach track.
Which parks have running loops?
Dubai’s larger parks give you shade, grass and a loop you can repeat. Distances are from a Gulf News guide to the city’s running tracks.
Safa Park
A loop of about 3.5 km in Al Safa, close to the canal. Best from October to April, or first thing on a summer morning.
Zabeel Park
A family park with a loop of about 2 km, suited to shorter runs and walks with children. Best in the cooler months.
Al Barsha Pond Park
A loop of about 1.4 km around a pond in Al Barsha, near shops. The short loop makes it easy to count laps, which suits interval sessions.
Dubai Creek Park
A loop of about 4 km in the park on Dubai Creek. Best from November to March.
Where can you hike without leaving the city?
What it is. Mushrif National Park has a 9.7 km hiking trail that Dubai Municipality opened in June 2023.
Distance. The trail is split into an 8.3 km yellow recreational track for beginners and a 1.4 km orange sports track for experienced walkers. It has wooden stairs and bridges, slopes, rest areas, toilets and signs.
Facilities. The municipality says the trail is free and open all year. Children aged 12 to 15 can use it only with an adult. The park also has a 50 km mountain bike track.
Best time. November to March. It is a trail for the cooler months.
Where can you ride long distances in the desert?
What it is. The Al Qudra cycle track, out in the desert, was declared the longest continuous cycling path by Guinness World Records in November 2022, according to the Dubai Media Office.
Distance. The main track is 80.6 km, with sub-tracks that extend the network further.
Facilities. Emergency phones at 30 points, shaded seats, restaurants, toilets and bike rental shops.
Best time. Dawn from October to April. It is built for cyclists first, so runners share it with fast bikes.
Where can you run by the Marina?
The Dubai Marina walk follows the water between the towers for about 8 km, according to Gulf News. Early mornings suit it in April, May and October, when the rest of the day is already warm.
What else is there beyond the best-known routes?
The Brand Dubai guide to outdoor sports, published by the Dubai Media Office in 2023, lists more places than most people know, including the Al Khawaneej walking and cycling track, Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park and the Hatta mountain bike trail in the mountains to the east.
The network is also growing. According to the Dubai Media Office, the Roads and Transport Authority’s cycling network grew from 560 km at the end of 2024 to 636 km at the end of 2025, and the plan is to reach 1,000 km by 2030. In March 2026, it reported 13 of 15 planned new tracks complete, 162 km in all, in areas including Al Khawaneej, Al Barsha and Al Warqa’a.
Many of these tracks run through residential areas, so the nearest place to move may be closer to home than the beach.
Where can you walk in summer?
From June to September, the most useful running track in Dubai may be indoors.
The Dubai Mallathon turns large malls into walking and running tracks in the morning, before the shops open. In 2026 it ran from 15 June to 15 September at six malls: Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, Dubai Festival City Mall, City Centre Deira and City Centre Mirdif, according to Khaleej Times. Daily walks were free and needed no registration. Dates and malls change each year, so check the official site.
Outdoors, the NHS advice for hot weather applies: avoid exercise that makes you hotter in the hottest part of the day, and stay in the shade between 11 am and 3 pm. Our guide to what 46°C does to your body explains the signs of heat exhaustion to look out for, and why the first hot weeks feel hardest.
When is the Dubai Fitness Challenge?
The Dubai Fitness Challenge runs from 31 October to 29 November 2026, according to Gulf News. It asks people to be active for 30 minutes a day for 30 days.
Two of its events use Sheikh Zayed Road itself. Dubai Ride is on 1 November, and Dubai Run is on Sunday 22 November, with 5 km and 10 km routes, according to The National. Both need registration.

Questions, answered
- Where can you run by the sea in Dubai?
- The longest seaside option is the jogging and walking track along Jumeirah Beach, which runs from the Dubai Water Canal to Umm Suqeim Park and passes Kite Beach, the Dubai Sailing Club and Sunset Mall on the way. A separate 16 km cycling track runs alongside it, so runners and cyclists each have their own lane. Early morning is the coolest time.
